Ask the Candidates

Before voting for a candidate in the Territorial Election, please take the time to educate yourself and learn the candidate’s stance on important issues that affect the north.

Ask them where they stand on:

Contracting out public services/ Privatization of public services.

It doesn’t always save money, it can even cost more in the long run.

Balancing the budget without job cuts.

You need to create jobs to stimulate the economy, job cuts don’t.

Addictions treatment in Yellowknife

Addiction to drugs and alcohol is a problem that is growing we need to help our people.

Should poverty be a major priority for the next government?

The citizens of the NT need a Living Wage not a minimum wage, a living wage is often higher than current “minimum” wages. A living wage to meet basic needs!

How will the GNWT avoid hitting the debt wall?

What happens when the current temporary debt ceiling is removed?

As the economic crisis grows worldwide, will we be safe from recession?  Will they fight for a stable economy and thoughtful financial measures

How will we pay for a new Stanton Hospital?

Projections put the cost in excess of the Deh Cho Bridge project.  Health care is more important, and requires more funding for the health of our citizens.

VOTE

Fax Facts 11-12 September 9, 2011

Ask the Candidates

On October 3rd Northwest Territories residents are going to choose a person to represent them in the legislative Assembly.

The election is very important. This is your opportunity to choose the direction your government will take.

In the last territorial election voter turnout was only 67% of all eligible voters. That number can be improved upon. If all labour friendly voters turned out to vote, a labour friendly government could be elected.

Almost all services offered by the territorial government involve unionized workers. An anti-union government could have dire consequences for the unionized workforce. It has happened before.

Ask questions of the candidates in your riding.  Ask them where they stand on:

Contracting out services/ Privatization of services,

Balancing the budget without job cuts,

Addictions treatment in Yellowknife

Should poverty be a major priority for the next government?

How will the GNWT avoid hitting the debt wall?  What happens when the current temporary debt ceiling is removed?

How will we pay for a new Stanton Hospital?

This election will put MLA’S in place for a four year term. It is important to make sure that you vote for a worker friendly candidate!

Every single voter needs to be active in defending our public services; exercise your right to vote - because democracy doesn't just happen – we make it happen.

January 5, 2011 Pay Equity settlement - Case Closed.

The PSAC /UNW is pleased to announce that all terms and conditions of the 2002 settlement negotiated between the PSAC and the GNWT have been implemented and the entire fifty million dollars of compensation has been distributed to current or former employees of the GNWT.

The June 2002 terms of settlement required eligible individuals to register claims with the GNWT by December 31, 2004. After all claims for compensation had been processed, resolved and paid, unclaimed funds remained. Under the terms of the 2002 agreement, a second round of payments was therefore necessary.

In the latter half of 2009, the PSAC and GNWT reached agreement on a procedure designed to ensure all remaining compensation funds would be distributed in a second round of payments. Implementation of this procedure was completed earlier this year. As a result, all provisions of the 2002 settlement have now been fully implemented.
